A soggy Christmas scramble

PYECOMBE Golf Club held a Christmas Scramble on Sunday when 25 teams of six took part, braving torrential rain and gale force winds.

Despite the weather, the course was in good condition, thanks to good drainage on the chalkland.

Seven teams gave up the battle and walked in but the remainder played the entire 18 holes.

The winning team, which was down to only five players, consisted of Andy Hayward, Andy Munday, Peter Reiling, Jamie Simmons and Andy Sadler with a score of 53.9. 2, Martyn Little, Colin Giles, D Lodge, J Southon and Megan Little, 54.8; 3, Andy Barnes, John Deacon, Matt Harper, Tom Knight, Alf Bickham and Jeannie Knight, 55.3; 4, Reg Auchterlonie, F Dennis, S Blake, G Ellis, R Little and Vi Auchterlonie, 55.4; 5, Mike Holland, Dave Hackett, John Jefferson, P Costick, Paul Flood and Diane Law, 56.7; 6, Andy Selsby, Lew Smith, Phil Hubble, Bob Watson, N Watson and Sandy Selsby, 56.8.
