Badminton hot prospect Adam Lam bagged a gold medal on his England debut in Belgium.

The 12-year-old from Hastings was part of the Badminton England squad which won the Challenge Cup at the Victor Junior OLVE Tournament.

Badminton England’s eight players achieved a score of 1,700 which was 500 more than runners-up Badminton Scotland. Twenty-two other teams took part and of them only three topped the 1,000 mark.

Playing in the under-13 boys’ singles, Adam came second in his group after beating Dylan Rosins (Belgium) 21-15, 19-21, 21-18 and Julien Scheiwiller (Switzerland) 21-6, 21-6 but losing to Marc Laporte (France) 18-21, 18-21.

That qualified him for the knockout stage where he overcame Alex Dunn (Scotland) 21-18, 21-15 before going down 17-21, 13-21 to Petr Beran (Czech Republic) in the last 16.

Adam trains at ‘The Academy’ under coach Manfred Tripp and is a member of the Asda Athletes Programme. His first fundraising event will be held at Asda St Leonards on Saturday June 11 and he is inviting public support.
