Adams steps in for Rooks

SEVENTEEN-year-old youth team player Jack Adams stepped in to solve Lewes Football Club's goalkeeping crisis as they went under 1-0 at Oxford United in Tuesday's FA Trophy first round replay.

Adams, a Brighton student, was with his girlfriend in Hove when he got the 11th-hour call and was raced to Oxford by a Rooks's fan, arriving shortly before the kick-off.

Goalkeeper David Blackmore was no longer available to Lewes for the game under the rules of the competition having signed a professional contract for West Ham, Aaron France has a dislocated shoulder and Jack Stern was unavailable.

Adams coped well on his debut and could do nothing about the penalty winner fired home by Rob Duffy in the 27th minute.

The Rooks offered little in attack and suffered further worrying injuries to Paul Kennett and Simon Wormull as they now set their sights on reaching the Conference South playoffs.
