Amy hurdles her way to a new Blue Stars record

At the Sussex Schools Championships held at K2, Crawley at the weekend, Horsham Blue Star athletes performed well with six of them now selected to represent Sussex in the All England Schools Championships at Birmingham in July.

At the County event Amy Fitzpatrick won the junior girls 75m hurdles in a scintillating time of 11.7s, which not only set a new championship best, but also equalled a long-standing club record.

Joe West continued his good form this season with a win in a very competitive intermediate boys pole vault with a clearance of 3.80m, to gain an English Schools entry standard. Also in this age group there were wins for Jack Milnthorpe in the high jump (1.80m) and Sol Deller in the long jump (5.94m). Medals in this age group were won by Ashley Gorton (second in the 400m, 51.8s) and Tom Mackman (third in 800m, 2m12.8s).

The intermediate girls events saw Molly Adams win the 200m in a new personal of 25.9s. Lucy Milnthorpe won the high jump with 1.55m. The discus competition saw two medals won, Caroline Wirth taking silver with 27.59m and Emma Garry, bronze with 26.38m. Tabby Lee jumped 9.95m to win silver in the triple jump and Erin Bateman (2m23.5s) ran a pb for third place in the 800m.

The junior boys events saw another good performance by Elliott Bayley, who won the javelin with a pb of 43.41m, Jordan Levey take second in the 200m with 23.8s In the junior girls javelin Catriona Jamieson took second with a pb throw of 35.28m. In the senior girls, Jade Brewster cleared 3.40m to win the pole vault and Emily Cox won the discus with 24.88m

The athletes selected for Sussex are Jade Brewster (pole vault), Molly Adams (200m), Catriona Jamieson (javelin), Amy Fitzpatrick (75m hurdles), Elliott Bayley (javelin) and Joe West (pole vault). Connor Dearden will represent Surrey in the pole vault.
