ANOTHER 40lb plus carp has been caught from Sussex from a secret venue which most carp anglers are trying to locate. It follows the capture of the huge fish landed by John Hammond of Saltdean and reported a few weeks ago.

The latest fish was hooked by Mark Kitson of Sovereign Baits and remarkably enough was landed on 6lb line and float fished sweetcorn. I always fish with sweetcorn and to prove I do not spend a lot of money on bait, it was a 6p tin from Tesco, said Mark who took an hour and 37 minutes to play the fish to the net.

Mark who will not reveal where the fish was caught because the owner asked him not to, has also landed roach to 2lb 14oz and rudd to 3lb 4oz from the same water.

At Broadhurst Lake Horsted Keynes members of Isfield and District Angling Club have been catching some huge bream which have scaled up to 8lb. Most of the fish were hooked on maggots while feeder fishing.

On the pike scene things have been a bit slow on the Rother and Wallers Haven though one angler from Edenbridge did manage to catch a predator of 20lb 6oz from the Ironbridge stretch of the Wallers on a dead bait.

Brick Farm Lake has produced a rainbow trout of 13lb 12oz to Ken Driscoll of Battle which he caught in a seven fish catch while fishing a Montana. It was a personal best for Ken and is the biggest of several rainbows from the water over 10lb.

Another trout water to fish well was Powdermill Reservoir where rainbows in the 5lb to 7lb class have been taken from both the bank and boats. The biggest fish was caught from the bank by P Burgess who fished with a Montana for 3 fish for 11lb 4oz and a best of 8lb 4oz. From the boats A Hares landed a rainbow of 7lb 5oz which was the best of 5 fish of 12lb 12oz, while D Warford caught three fish for 9lb 15oz and a best of 6lb 6oz which he hooked on a Buzzer.

The third round of the Seven League was fished on the Wallers Haven at Ironbridge. Section winners were: Section 1. Sid Underdown (Sids) 6lb 13oz, section 2. Percy Walter (Percy s) 2lb 1oz, Section 3. Terry Mercer (Sids) 2lb 3oz, Section 4. Bob Sutherland (Isfield A) 15lb, Section 5. Percy Cummins (Percy s) 6lb 14oz, Section 6. John Maynard (Sids) 8lb 1oz, Section 7. John Hayes (Horsted Keynes) 2lb 1oz. Teams on the day, top 4: Isfield A 38pts, Sids 37, Percy s 36, Falkenvil 33. Teams overall: Isfield A 113, Horsted Keynes 102, Falkenvil 98, Sigmat 95, Sids and Percy s 88.
