West Sussex’s premier team played their first match in the inter-county championships away to Surrey.

West Sussex started strongly, dropping just one point in the first session and winning all the games in the second session to lead 15-1 at lunch.

They were unable to maintain this standard in the afternoon with Surrey coming back to share the points in both afternoon sessions. Despite this West Sussex finished with a very satisfactory win by 29-11 and 218 shots to 139, a good opening to their 2011-12 campaign.

In the pairs Lavant’s Peter Whale, with The Martlets’ Malcolm Rollings, drew 11-11 and lost 12-11. In the triples The Martlets’ Chris Rolph and Jack Rollings won 12-17 and lost 10-9.
