Another final for Holbrook RFC

Holbrook Rugby Club made it to their second cup final in consecutive seasons with a fine win by their Seconds over Haywards Heath III.

The first 20 minutes were tough for Holbrook as they saw little of the ball while Heath were stronger at the breakdown. Led by tackling machine Ben Anderson, Holbrook’s defence held firm and with 20 minutes gone Ash Sporne ran from inside his own half to beat several tackles and dive over in the corner.

Holbrook gradually took control, although because of too many penalties and an overeagerness to pick and drive they only added a Chris Keeler penalty to their score before half time.

The second half was a totally different game with Holbrook learning from the first half and looking the stronger side as their young front row began to dominate. With better ball No.8 Simon Ley was able to make more of his trademark carries and Holbrook started to move the ball wider, and as Heath tired Ley touched down to make it 13-0.

Heath’s defence kept Holbrook at bay until man of the match Ben Anderson snapped up a loose ball to score his first try in three seasons at the club to seal an 18-0 win. The final at Crowborough is on February 24 with the other finalists to be confirmed.
