Another three leave Worthing FC

THREE MORE first-team players have left Woodside this week, making four in eight days.

Following the departure of out-of-favour midfielder Leo Day, current right-back Dean Lovegrove has gone to Premier Division club Horsham, striker Shaheen Sadough has returned to Division 2 South rivals Burgess Hill and utility man Danny Davis has been released.

Lovegrove's move came as a surprise to joint-manager Alan Pook, who said it was a case of ambition: "He wants to test his ability at a higher level." Lovegrove came to Rebels from Woking.

Sadough, in his first season out of County League football, did not score in his nine starts and two substitute appearances. Pook blamed partly the fans: "I feel a bit sorry for Shaz. He's taken an awful of of stick from some of the crowd and it had affected his confidence. We thought it best he went back to Burgess Hill and got it back."

Davis has been suffering from a back injury and Pook said he'd made the decision about him as something best for the club in view of the presence of young players awaiting their chances. Economics had also been a consideration.

Pook commented: "I wish Danny all the best. He's an excellent player. If he gets his fitness back by the summer, I'd welcome him back for pre-season.

Regarding the going of Day, who had been in and out of the side, Pook said he thought the player's fitness in recent months had been affected by events off the pitch and had therefore reduced his effectiveness at times.
