Arundel Riding Club fetes its top members

THE End of Year Awards Night at Arundel and District Riding Club attracted a good turnout of old and new members.

The club encourages novice or new horse-and-rider combinations to come along and have fun while competing, as well as enabling existing riders to further their knowledge.

One combination having enjoyed a successful year was Charlotte Williams and her pony Pondshead Treasure. The duo were rewarded for commitment and determination, not only receiving the Attendance Award but also the Gymkhana and Show Jumping Award for their age group, along with Reserve Showing Champion of the Year.

Rebecca McGuire took the Helper of the Year Award for continuous hard work moving show jumps and setting up show and dressage rings as well as encouraging nervous riders.

Parents of junior members also received awards, with Nina Johnson winning the Horseless Rider Award for encouraging her daughter, while Chris Tompkins took the new award for the Most Motivated Parent for always attending with his daughters.

The Pagan Award went to Charlotte Edwards, who tries her best with not the easiest of rides.

The Most Improved Horse went to Carolyn Basham's feisty bay thoroughbred, Echo, who has changed from an unjumpable horse in the past year to one that is almost always placed, including combined training, eventers' challenge and dressage events.

The Most Improved Rider of the Year was Keeley Butler, who has progressed from 1ft fences to bigger obstacles and is now also competing in dressage.
