Arundel the next Hamilton?

LOCAL Formula BMW UK Championship driver, Henry Arundel, took part in the second of three "Introduction to Formula One" masterclasses with 1992 Formula One champion, Nigel Mansell, at Silverstone at the weekend.

The masterclass took place in the BMW Sauber F1 Pit Lane Park, a touring theme park that has a 100-metre track, which is designed to allow fans to get close to the stars and cars of Formula One.

After being given an introduction to the BMW Sauber F1 team car, Arundel and the select group of drivers undertook a series of activities under the watchful eye of Mansell. That included a pit-stop challenge, race simulator, reaction test and F1 quiz.

Arundel said: "It was fantastic. The BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park is a great place to get behind the scenes of motorsport.

"I always try to take all advice on board, but coming from a Formula One World Champion and hearing stories about all the things he's been through, makes it even more interesting and helpful."

Arundel also demonstrated his Formula BMW FB01 car in the Pit Lane Park and added: "It's been a new experience as normally we wouldn't do donuts out on the track. The crowds have been fantastic and made the experience even more memorable."

Mansell said: "BMW is committed to nurturing the next generation and the Pit Lane Park provides a perfect platform to talk through all that is Formula One as they progress their motorsport careers.

"Who knows, we may have the next Lewis Hamilton amongst us."

This weekend, second-placed Arundel continues his pursuit of the Formula BMW UK Championship at Donnington Park.
