Arunners preparing for annual Beach Run

ARUNNERS Running Club members are hard at work preparing for their annual Beach Run.

Around 300 runners from all over West Sussex will converge on the green next to the Harvester on the evening of Wednesday, June 26, ready to do battle over the five-mile course along the sands.

The main race will be at 7.30pm and for youngsters there will be a three-quarters-of-a-mile race along the promenade at 7pm. The race will be started by Littlehampton mayor, Joyce Bowyer.

Arunners are keen to see more people from Littlehampton and Rustington take part in the run and entries are available on the night for £5 (juniors £1) or in advance for £4 (juniors 50p).

Entry forms can be downloaded from the Arunners website, www.arunners.co.uk

Proceeds from the run will go to support Enable Me, a local charity which helps to improve the lives of disabled people.

The race organisers hope that the whole race can be run on the sand and the greensward, as it was last year, but a partial road closure has been arranged in case that proves impossible.

That would affect traffic coming from Rustington to Littlehampton, along the seafront from the corner of Sea Lane to Harsfold Road between 7.30pm and 8.30pm and is to ensure the safety of the runners. Traffic going in the opposite direction (Littlehampton to Rustington) will be unaffected.
