Elise Lovell came second in the England Athletics Senior Combined Events National Championships at Bedford International Stadium.

In appalling weather on Saturday with heavy rain and strong headwinds that made fast times in the 100m hurdles and 200m impossible, she adapted well to the conditions to produce some solid performances to lie fourth overnight with 2,752 points.

Lovell clocked 15.04s (836pts) for the 100m hurdles, 1.57m (701pts) in the high jump, 9.25m (480pts) for the shot and 26.72s (735pts) in the 200m.

On Sunday - thankfully a drier day - she continued her fine form by producing a second day heptathlon PB of 1,964 points to move into second place and gain her first senior national medal.

Lovell achieved 5.39m (668pts) in the long jump, 33.33m (540pts) in the javelin and 2:27.41min (726pts) in the 800m to give her a total of 4,686 points, just short of her PB of 4,710 - a really commendable score considering the atrocious Saturday conditions.
