Atlantis were in fine form again for final day of Sussex Winter Competition at The Pavilions

Building on last week’s excellent showing, Atlantis won 35 more medals including 18 gold.

Rebecca Barber, 11, won four more gold medals, while Jessica Mace (nine), Ethel Whyman (11) and Beth Britton (15), who all won three of their events.

In the boys’ events, Andrew Kershaw (15) bagged himself five medals from his seven events - three of which were gold.

Michael Pallister and Cameron Holden-Graham were also event winners. Many other swimmers were in the medals, notably Millie Weedon (10) and Amelia Wright (11) who both won three medals and Toby van der Hut, who won two.

In the younger age groups, swimmers were also awarded points, and at the end of the two days, awards were presented to those swimmers who had amassed the most points from all their swims.

Jessica Mace won the nine- year-old girls’ award, while in the 11-year-old girls, Atlantis were well represented with Ethel Whyman winning, Rebecca Barber coming third and Amelia Wright fifth.

In the boys’ event, Michael Pallister was just edged into second place in the 10-year- old age group.

This new competition proved to be a very successful event for the County, and will now become an annual event, with the hope that it will become a Winter Championship, in due course.

A group of swimmers that have been training in Lanzarote returned home on Sunday.

They have spent the last week in intense training, spending up to six hours a day in the pool.

They will be in action for Atlantis’ next competition, the second round of the Arena National League in Maidstone on Saturday, ahead of which Atlantis sit top of the league,
