Aussie Bowes takes six on his debut

WORTHING Cricket Club's new overseas player, Kyle Bowes took six wickets to power them to victory on his first appearance for them in the Sussex League.

The 28-year-old all-rounder from Adelaide district Turf League club Walkerville had four lbws and a bowled in his six for 46 on the Manor Ground, his new home venue.

That helped to rip out Roffey for 172 and a 30-run Worthing victory, in which the Aussie pace bowler had already cracked 18 not out in the final acceleration of Worthing innnings.

Bowes' Worthing captain, David Rogers, revealed that Bowes had already accomplished one challenge he set himself: "Kyle bet one of our other bowlers, Kevin Punter, who is out injured, that he would get 30 wickets and a five-for at the Manor.

"Kyle put a bit of pressure on himself to do well in this game. He bowled very fast and very straight."

Worthing travel on Saturday to Haywards Heath, who are expected to be among the pacemakers in Division 2 this season. Along with Worthing, if Bowes' initial impact is any early indication.
