Back training and still hungry for winners

FOUR years ago, Peter Hedger handed in his trainer's licence after a lifetime in racing. Now at the age of 70, he is back training again because his heart has always been in racing.

He started out as a jockey, and then took out a permit in 1981, followed by a full-licence three years later when he took on his yard in Eastergate.

From there he regularly sent out around a dozen-15 runners a year, and amongst them were familiar names like Manston Marauder, Jimmy Lorenzo, Veronica Franco, Al Asoof and Brilliant Red. Kilcash was also a key player, only just pipped in the Ladbroke Hurdle at Leopardstown after a mistake at the last.
