Baker blitz boosts Blues

SIDLEY United striker Peter Baker led his side to an impressive 3-0 win against Hailsham Town on Tuesday evening (September 11) with his second hat-trick in two games.

Baker s keen awareness and cool head in and around the box has now netted him seven league goals in as many games, including three on Sidley s visit to Chichester City United.

The mid-week hat-trick was all the more impressive as the slippery Gullivers pitch was tricky to play on.

Hailsham dominated the first half but their strikers could not tame the ball as it skidded along the golf-green style grass at pace.

But just before the break Baker showed them how it was done when he guided a well-struck volley past the flailing goalkeeper.

Two more goals in quick succession saw off the fading threat of the visitors.

His second goal rolled into the net with no problems, but the third took all his poacher s instincts as it bounced back off a post.

Fortunately he followed up and reached the ball before the retreating defence could clear.

The win lifted Sidley up to third in the Sussex First Division.
