Barry earns place in national pro-am final

AMATEUR golfer Barry Pigram, of High Beach Close has beaten stiff local competition to become the South region winner in a national amateur Red Bull Final5 competition.

The regional final took place at East Brighton golf club recently. Barry has won a place in the Challenge Tour Grand Final Pro Am event-taking place in Bordeaux on October 22, which will include the chance to compete in a five hole shoot out with five other regional winners.

The Red Bull Final5 was first introduced as part of the Challenge Tour earlier this year. The initiative aims to reward golfers who perform well as they tire over the final holes. The winner is the best performing golfer over the final five holes of the course.

The amateur Red Bull Final5 contest started in July and ran throughout golf clubs nation wide alongside club medal contests. The national competition attracted more than 18,000 competitors from more 200 golf clubs.

The winners will also be able to spectate at the first ever 5 hole shoot out involving the top six Challenge Tour Red Bull Final5 Order of Merit players. These professionals will be playing for a top prize of 12,500 euros in a sudden death competition over five holes, with one player eliminated after each hole.

The national Red Bull Final5 is one of a number of golf initiatives the energy drink company has announced this year including the Red Bull MastersClass hosted by Butch Harmon, and is part of Red Bull's continuing partnership with the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and with the European Challenge Tour.
