Barry included in provisional squad

Gareth Barry has been named in England's provisional 30-man squad for the FIFA World Cup.

The Hastings raised midfielder was among the party announced by manager Fabio Capello on Tuesday lunchtime which will be whittled down to 23 by June 1.

Although the Manchester City star played in all of England's qualifying matches, there had been doubts over whether he would make the squad for the finals.

Former William Parker Sports College pupil Barry sustained an ankle injury against Tottenham Hotspur last Wednesday and is likely to be sidelined for approximately four weeks.

The World Cup will take place in South Africa from June 11-July 11 and England will open their Group C campaign against USA on Saturday June 12.
