Here's who are in the running - Jonathan Woods, Janis Ivanovskis, Ryan Patton, Daniel Midgley and Colby Bargeman.

Jonathan Woods (Chicago, USA): Among leading BBL rebounders and shot blockers, a consistent and almost unguardable fadeaway jump shot, and a deadly, flat three-point weapon. His excellent free throw record reflects his three-point trajectory and accuracy. Has begun to conquer his tendency to foul trouble. Charismatic appearance, gentle character on and off court.

Ryan Patton (Ohio, USA): Among leading BBL three-point and free-throw shooters and assist dishers. Recovering after a traumatic car crash injury, has stepped up to BBL level from EBL to make his mark as a feared, strike-from-anywhere scorer you dare not foul, and a point-guard capable of changing a game. Clean-cut image, friendly and crowd conscious.

Janis Ivanovskis (Riga, Latvia): Still Thunder's leading scorer despite becoming one of the league's most marked men and having to play centre instead of his natural power-forward spot. Among the BBL's leading scorers and rebounders. Fine record in giving assists, despite being the go-to guy. Only his free-throw shooting snags his BBL MVP potential. Smiling, articulate personality.

Daniel Midgley (Burgess Hill, England): Made Thunder's starting small-forward spot his own in the absence of a centre in the team. Stepping up last season from the EBL, has emerged as a three-point threat, tough to guard on the drive to the basket, 90 per cent from the free-throw line when stopped, an uncompromising defender and an astute passer. Cheery, relaxed off-court demeanour.

Colby Bargeman (Los Angeles, USA): Signed for his long-reach defence, backstreet stealing and elastic rebounding, he has fulfilled rookie expectations and taken the shooting-guard spot by storm in certain matches. Thrillingly athletic, his play "above the rim" fits Thunder's new playing level and his alleyoop dunk is one the BBL spectaculars. Colourful, funky guy.

These Thunder men have impacted thus on the BBL stats '”

Janis Ivanovskis: 4th in scoring (20 pts per game), 3rd in rebounding (10 rpg).

Ryan Patton: 11th in scoring (17), 4th in three-point shooting (43%) and the league champion (26 in 2min), 8th in free throws (85%).
