Battling Bexhill into final

Bexhill United recorded a tremendous victory to reach the final of a county football competition on Wednesday night.

United came from behind to defeat Saltdean United 3-2 after extra-time in the Sussex County League Division Three Challenge Cup.

Gordon Cuddington was the hero after hurdling a couple of challenges and picking out the far corner of the net for the winning goal on 104 minutes.

Bexhill initially took a ninth minute lead through Mark Funnell, but they were distinctly second best during the first half and reached the interval trailing 2-1.

They stepped up a gear from then, however, and Kingsley Parsons headed them level from David Harris' 51st minute free kick.

The game was marred by a suspected broken leg suffered by Saltdean midfielder Seb Allen following a crunching challenge with Parsons.

United will meet Haywards Heath Town or Rottingdean Village in the final which is historically played on Good Friday.
