BDO darts hopeful gets a lift from Eurotrucks

A Chichester company has given a top local darts player a big lift.

Eurotrucks have sponsored Andy Hills to help fund his quest to make it big on the BDO circuit.

The company, who import Hyundai forklift trucks and sell them through a network of dealers, decided to back Hills after their managing director Brian Hamblin got to know him through the Cathedral Works Organisation, who he works for and who have links with Eurotrucks.

Their name will appear on Hills’ clothing as he steps up to the oche at local, national and international tournaments.

Hills (48) has played darts since he was 12, starting in the Midhurst leagues and working his way to Sussex Super League standard and the county squad.

He is now on the BDO circuit, playing in ranking tournaments like opens and the Grand Prix. His aim is to qualify for the BDO world championships, which take place at Lakeside every January.

Hills often teams up with Bognor’s Graeme Dutton for pairs tournaments and they’ve made excellent progress in events at home and abroad.

Hills said: “Having the backing of a local company like Eurotrucks makes the world of difference to me.

“It is a huge boost for me and I hope I can now repay them by getting them exposure at some high-level events.”

Eurotrucks boss Hamblin said: “Andy came and asked for a bit of sponsorship for the 2011 season and, although it’s a new area for us, we thought ‘Why not?’

“We’re enjoying following his progress and we’re pleased to be supporting a local player.”
