Bexhill add cup to promotion success

Second half goals from captain Mark Funnell and Sam Thompson secured a 2-0 win over East Sussex League Premier outfit Peche Hill Select in a well-contested final at the Pilot Field on Wednesday night.

Select posed plenty of problems in the first half, but the County League side gradually took control. The opening goal arrived soon after half time when Funnell let fly from the edge of the box.

They made sure of victory with a quarter of an hour remaining through a superbly-worked move finished off by the impressive Thompson. Man of the match was Andy Matthews.

Bexhill manager Bill Trivett said: "At the start of the season we set out to win promotion but to get a cup as well is absolutely brilliant."
