Bexhill look to build on opening day win

BEXHILL are looking to build on their opening day victory in the Sussex Cricket League second division when they travel to Roffey on Saturday (May 11).

The ghost of last season's defeat at the hands of Sidley was laid to rest as they saw off their rivals by 43 runs in the Bexhill Observer sponsored derby.

Bexhill's director of cricket Jeff Chinn said: "It was always going to be a hard game because they're local rivals which means there's a bit more of an edge to it.

"We lost a couple of early wickets and dropped a couple of catches but basically everyone is performing reasonably well and confidence is high.

"It's a bit early, but the win puts us top of the league alphabetically ahead of Lewes Priory who beat our opponents for Saturday Roffey."

"After the Sidley game and the Hastings Priory game (lost by one run) we've proved we can bowl sides out so we should be confident of a reasonable season now."

Left arm bowler Matthew Blackman and wicketkeeper Neil Broughton could be in the squad.

The seconds entertain Roffey II at The Polegrove, both matches start at 1.15pm.
