Bexhill still have plenty to play for

BEXHILL United manager Len Watkins has denied that their season would have effectively been over had they lost to Seaford reserves in the Sussex Intermediate Cup on Saturday.

A poor start to the Sussex Division Three season has been compounded by premature exits from the Division Three Challenge Cup and the Hastings Intermediate Cup.

But Watkins maintains there's still plenty to play for in the league and is hoping that Saturday's win will be the turning point in their season. He said: "All we've got to do is get together a good run of four or five games on the trot and we are in a good position. If we put a good run together we are right back in there like we did last year. We are a good side, we have not become a bad side overnight. The competition for places is good which is encouraging and everything is fine.

"I don't think the confidence has been lacking. If you go back over the games it's not confidence that's been lacking it's just been bad luck in front of goal. As a club we were not scoring enough goals and it's been a catalogue of if onlys."

Two goals from Dickie Anderson and one from Ollie Leigh secured a 3-1 victory over Seaford.

United will seek to kick-start their league campaign with three points from the visit of struggling Uckfield Town on Saturday November 15, kick-off 2.15pm.
