Big win over Littlehampton boosts Bognor squash aces

Bognor's first team recorded a second consecutive victory when Littlehampton were the visitors to Hawthorn Road.

Bognor were at their strongest for some time as Pat Jones at No5 took on Chris O’Neil and put the home team one up with a fine display, particularly in the third and fourth games after the match had been levelled at one-all. The score was 9-4, 3-9, 9-1, 9-0.

Captain Steve Carruthers had a real tussle in his first game against Dave Bridgeman, just managing to edge home 10-9, but the Littlehampton No4 was equal to the challenge and took the next three games to level the scores.

This was the only success of the night for the visiting side as Luke Allen ran out a 3-1 winner over Phil Wood, despite losing the first and edging a very close fourth game – the score 6-9, 9-4, 9-0, 9-8.

The second string for Bognor was Steve Enfield and he also dropped a close first game against Ashley Squires, but found his current good form to cruise home with relative ease 7-9, 9-2, 9-3, 9-1.

In the No1 clash, Steve Porter was up against Phil Stacey and was not too troubled in a convincing 3-0 win – 9-2, 9-3, 9-5 – to give Bognor a 4-1 victory and an 18-6 points margin.

The next match at Hawthorn Road is tomorrow (March 4) at 7pm when the second team face high-flyers Middleton IV. Spectators are welcome – call 01243 865462.
