Bike fanatic Kevin, 50, revving his engines to ride on the world stage

A local rider from Horsham will share a track with the best in the business at the next round of the World Superbikes Championships.

Kevin Lilley races in the Mini Twins, one of three classes of motor racing on the bill at Donnington Park alongside race five of the superbikes at the end of the month (May 24 to 27).

Kevin, a self-confessed ‘bike fanatic’, only took up racing last year at the age of 50 on the advice of a friend who is an established rider on the club scene in America.

“I’ve had motorbikes since the age of 16 and racing is always something I’ve wanted to do,” Kevin said. “So on the advice of a friend who rides in the US I decided to take it up at the grand age of 50 and now I’m totally hooked.”

After being named Most Improved Rider in his rookie season in the Bemsee Mini Twins, Kevin says racing has taken over much of his spare time and introduced him to new friends. For him the chance to ride on the world stage in front of an estimated 30,000 people will be a “dream come true”.

The company he works for, TC Repair and Supply in Burgess Hill, are covering most of the cost of his tyres - around £300 a race alone. Kevin is offering the chance of stickered sponsorship for the televised race, contact him on 07711 612461 for details.
