Bognor get a Thorne in their side against Slinfold

Bognor were unable to claim all the points in Sussex division three west against Slinfold, falling short of the required target.

After electing to bowl, Bognor were put on the back foot by a flurry of boundaries racing off the fast outfield.

However Bognor’s opening pair fought back hard, claiming the wicket of Steven Haines (10) off the bowling of Graham Bush (1-24).

Slinfold’s positive start was suppressed by consistent bowling from Jim Lee (2-18) and Charlie La Foret (1-33) bowling well to slow the run rate down and claim Slinfold’s top order.

Slinfold tried to consolidate their position with captain Guy Thorne (28) and Hayden Mcintyre (31) occupying the crease.

However Bognor had other ideas and continued to pile on the pressure with pace from Michael Spaseski (1-16) and spin from Robert Willway (1-27).

Bognor’s bowlers looked in great form as they bowled Slinfold out for 165 with captain Elliot Clarke claiming the lower order with his spell of three for 26.

Bognor’s batting did not reflect their bowling display as the batsmen struggled to show resilience against the Slinfold attack. With early wickets from Thorne and Webb (1-27) Bognor were on the back foot.

The opening of spin and pace from Slinfold proved an effective decision against the Bognor batsmen on a turning pitch.

Spaseski attempted to take the attack to the spin of Guy Thorne, hitting a six, but he was unable to repeat the maximum as he was bowled for 13.

Bognor were in a difficult position at 55 for five but still showed glimpses of hope with James Fallick (22) and the lower order proving runs were available.
