Bognor made to battle past Oak

DESPITE the result, Mile Oak Football Club manager Anthony Whittington called last Wednesday's Senior Cup defeat a "good all-round night for the club."

A crowd of 278 filled Chalky Road and Whittington said: "The atmosphere was excellent and I was pleased with how we played. We battled hard, worked hard and passed the ball well.

"I couldn't have been more pleased with how it went. I know we didn't win but we gave it a good go."

There was to be no giant-killing, with goals from Stuart Tuck and Ben Watson ensuring The Rocks eased to a 2-0 victory.

Oak never really threatened. Their best chance came after the interval. Luke Nightingale handled dangerously close to the penalty area, and right-back, Chris Paine, took the resulting free kick. His effort skimmed the heads of the Bognor wall and chipped the paintwork off the top of the bar.
