Bogonr mix it up for doubles action on the court

In a change from previous years, Bognor Tennis Club decided their annual mixed doubles tournament would be restricted to entries from club members.

This proved a popular decision and 13 couples arrived to take part.

There was a wide range of ability and experience, ranging from those who had been playing tennis for years to those who had only recently taken up tennis.

In the morning the 13 couples were divided into three mixed-ability groups.

Many less experienced players were keenly competitive.

The morning’s results were used to rank each couple and form smaller groups. The highest-ranked couples were Sue Briggs and David Rowley, Ruth Hendren and Paul Sabin and Sue Osborne and Laszlo Sagi.

Osborne and Sagi made a commanding start by beating Hendren and Sabin 6-3 and followed that with a 7-2 win against Briggs and Rowley.

Their tally of 13 wins secured first place in the top group and they were awarded the Hendry mixed doubles trophy.
