Aldingbourne’s first league match of the season resulted in a resounding win over Crablands BC by 36 shots, thanks to Freddie Taylor’s team winning 39-10. This gave Aldingbourne eight points from ten available.

In their second league match of the new season, Aldingbourne took six points from Worthing B, winning on two rinks and by 107-59.

Aldingbourne held their annual open fours, entertaining 28 teams from around West Sussex and farther afield, including sides from Crawley and Fareham. The eventual winners The Dream Team from Worthing.


Southbourne 51 West Dean 42

West Dean, visited Southbourne for an enjoyable mixed triples friendly.. Southbourne won on two rinks and lost on one – winning overall by nine shots.

Chichester B 99 Maltravers 62

Chichester B secured all ten points in their West Sussex League match at home to Maltravers. Chichester got off to a good start and steadily built up their score, going on to win by 37 shots.

Chichester 144 Marldon Maple Leaf Tourists 117

Chichester entertained a touring team Marldon Maple Leaf from Devon in a mixed friendly.

This fixture was so popular that Chichester had too many players, so several were substituted on rinks two and four after ten ends.

Chichester 31 Storrington 28

In their home game against Storrington in the BM League, Chichester won on one rink and lost on the other – taking four points for the overall win.

Crablands 86 Chichester 69

Playing at Crablands in the Sussex Top Club contest, Chichester won only one of the four disciplines and were knocked out.

Scores: Singles: Chris Hobbs won 21-19; Pairs: Debbie Hogg & Betty Spicer lost 20-17; Triples: Jean Hole, Bridget Collins & April Janamn lost 24-11; Fours: Pam Rampton, Sandra Pickard, Steph Baverstock & Sue Miles lost 23-20.

Chichester 30 Mackie 12

Chris Hobbs, Debbie Hogg, Steph Baverstock and Betty Spicer, playing at home against Mackie in their first game of the Gladys Rowland Trophy, won by a comfortable 18 shots taking them through to the next round.


Fishbourne 38 Middleton 27

The BML mixed league continues to be a frustrating one for Middleton. The team never loses more than half their games but frequently lose the match on points scored. And so it proved again at Fishbourne.

Norfolk 64 Middleton 81

It is always encouraging to get a win early in the season, which iswhat Middleton achieved at Norfolk.

Middleton 91 Marldon BC 116

Middleton entertained a touring side from Marldon in Devon. Six rinks were called into action with the overall points score in favour of Marldon masking some close-fought games on a highly-enjoyable day.

Four Pagham rinks played in the men’s Parrish Cup versus Pulborough and won 81-66.

Four rinks played at home to Maltravers in a 90-54 win.

Two mixed triples had a narrow 30-28 win over RAFA in the BM League.

Scores: J Sales, B Sales, P Mayoss won 19-9; D Spink, A Ross, J Newell lost 19-11.

Two rinks enjoyed a ladies’ C&M League 52-28 win over Chichester.

Scores: I Brooker, J Cutts, C Mayoss, G Conley won 32-13; J Wells, J Sales, A Ross, S Stocker won 20-15.

In the Midhurst Cup first round, Storrington beat Pgham by two shots on the extra end after a draw.

Scores: Away: R Pearson, T Plows, M English won 20-10; T Wells, J Wells, D Spink lost 20-14; Home: J Sales, S Stocker, P Mayoss drew 18-18; B Sales, S Stocker, C Mayoss lost 17-13.


Crablands 28 Stedham 34

On a cold afternoon, Stedham came to Crablands for two friendly triples.

Scores: D Ayling, J Saunders, C Ruler lost 22-6; G Humphreys, R Osborn, I Jones won 22-12.

Crablands ladies played Chichester in the Sussex Top Club, winning three out of the four disciplines to move into the next round on June 13.


Witterings 136 Little Spain 50

Witterings had a resounding win over Little Spain, winning on all five rinks.

Witterings 66 Bognor 74

A very convivial match was held in gusty winds against a strong team from Bognor.

Witterings look forward to a return match at Bognor, where they hope to reverse the result.

A great team effort saw Witterings win their first game this season in the C&M League against Lancing.

Scores: Ann Miles, Barbara Newman, Chris Horsley, Marina Aylward (skip) lost 19-16; Diane Leach, Julie Mulligan, Maureen Mulligan, Carole Tuffin (skip) won 20-15.


Midhurst 73 (4pts) Milford 39 (1pt)

Midhurst entertained Milford in the Three Counties League and won overall by 34 shots winning on two rinks and losing on one.

Midhurst 49 Graffham 54

In a close contest, Midhurst lost to Graffham by five shots.

Scores: Gordon Knight, Delphine Clark & Margaret Sole lost 18-17; Colin Downham, Joy Wells & Terry Berry lost 17-11; Tony Hubble, Basil Osborne & Margery Hayward won 19-17.

In a close-fought friendly match, Midhurst won by three shots and at last found some winning form.

Fittleworth had a resounding win when they played host to Haslemere, winning on all three rinks.

A trip to Pulborough was a much closer affair with Fittleworth losing by just three shots.

Scores: Mike Ryan, Sue Judd, David Luxford lost 21-16; Pauline Gilpin, Brian Ball, Monica Enticknap lost 18-9; Arthur Ellcome, Sheila Allen, Gina Barnfield won 20-9.
