Chichester groups pick up boxing show proceeds

CHICHESTER’S big annual night of boxing has led to another share-out of money to good causes.

St Gerards Boxing Club teams up with the Rotary Club of Chichester Priory each year for a black-tie dinner show, held now at Chichester College.

It raises thousands and organisations benefitting from this year’s show were invited to the boxing club’s Swanfield Cmmunity Centre HQ to receive their cheques.

This year’s fourth annual event, held in Feburary, netted £10,521.62 and here’s who has had a share: n St Gerard’s Boxing Club (general running expenses); Chichester Boys’ Club (general running expenses); Swanfield Drive Community Centre (start up new youth club); TS Sturdy (Repair of four bell lyres – musicl instruments); 8th Chichester Scouts (camping fridge); 4th Chichester Guides (storage container for equipment); Chichester Baptist Church Youth Club (summer camp); Hunston Canoe Club (six palm canoe cags); 12th Chichester Scouts (two tents); Chichester Canoe Club (eight spray decks and eight wetsuits); Lavant Scouts (tent).

Organisers also paid tribute to the sponsors of the event – main sponsor Phil Haddow, whose Haddow Electrical firm make the whole thing look professional with a top-class lighting rig and other gear, plus other backers Barry Sampson of Seaward Property, Peter Young and Chichester College.
