Fletcher clinches boxing league title

Ian Fletcher justified his bullish pre-match talk by winning a Queensbury Boxing League title.

The Hastings fighter was brimming with confidence in the build-up and backed it up by beating Dave “Bad Boy” Bennett for the vacant super middleweight title.

Fletcher got off to an excellent start at the famous Epsom Downs racecourse on Saturday night, putting his opponent, a fire fighter from Guildford, on the canvas in the very first round.

The second round was more of the same with Fletcher, a 24-year-old plasterer, continuing to chase Bennett around the ring, looking to finish him off with controlled aggression.

Eventually the referee stopped the bout after “Fletch” floored his man three more times in the third round, the last punch being a spectacular knockout. The show was run by Ross Minter and Alan Foley.
