Griffiths enjoys Swindon win - now for a Portsmouth repeat

LIAM GRIFFITHS has laid the foundations for his first fight in Portsmouth for more than a year with a overwhelming win in Swindon.

The 25-year-old orthodox Bognor boxer won each of the six rounds in his battle with popular home-town opponent Danny O’Reilly at a packed Oasis Leisure Centre.

Griffiths, who stepped up a division to light-middleweight for the contest, won 60-54 to silence a hostile crowd and is now preparing to face Gavin Putney from Luton at South Parade Pier, Southsea, on Saturday, November 10.

“The crowd were really behind Danny and were one of the most abusive and hostile I have faced as a professional,” said Griffiths.

“But I pride myself on being a road warrior, willing to box anyone, anywhere, at any time and it was like water off a duck’s back.

“It inspired me to produce my best boxing and I worked behind my jabs and threw some snappy combinations which put him on the back foot.

“Now I’m looking forward to boxing in front of my own fans on the Ballys Gym show in Pompey and producing and other good victory.”
