Jones overwhelmed Laszlo Fekete inside a couple of rounds at the York Hall in Bethnal Green and the following night, Lee Selby ripped the IBF featherweight title from Evgeny Gradovich.

The Welshman was well ahead on all three judges’ cards when Gradovich was ruled out with a cut after eight rounds.

Selby dazzled - The Times predicted he “could be British boxing’s next superstar” - but Jones reckons he can beat him and the 32-year-old hopes to get his chance later this year.

Warrior Boxing Promotions have confirmed Jones will box for the vacant IBF Intercontinental title on their show at the York Hall on Saturday, July 18.

Winning the belt would secure a top-15 ranking with the IBF - and a possible shot at Selby.

Five years ago, Jones was narrowly beaten on points by Selby and he said: “I know Lee has improved since then - but so have I.

“I really think a fight between us would be a cracker.

“Gradovich didn’t make it difficult for him.

“He walked straight at him in straight lines and made it easy for him. I wouldn’t do that.”

Jones admits he was pleased to see Selby win world honours.

He said: “I’ve never had any doubt that he was a class act.

“I always thought he would go on to do big things and not everyone agreed with me. I’m glad he showed he can do it.

“But I still think I’ve got something he doesn’t like.”

Jones had way too much of everything for his last opponent.

Fekete came from Hungary having won his last two fights inside the distance and came to fight, but was out of his depth.

Whenever Jones unloaded, Fekete came apart and he took four counts in the opening round before referee Jeff Hinds waved it off in the second.

Jones said: “I thought it would be tougher than that, but I went out there and did what I had to do.”
