Moore: I'll sort out arrogant Day

The Fareham braveheart defends his Southern Area title against Day in London next Saturday.

The lightweight clash at the York Hall has the ingredients of an exciting match-up as puncher Moore takes on the unbeaten man from the capital.

Moore is in Wales completing his preparations with some top-drawer sparring with world champion Lee Selby.

And the war of words has now been ramped up ahead of battle.

Day has taken to social media to talk up his prospects, with many now seeing him as favourite to win.

Moore believes his opponent has shown arrogance as they prepare to meet.

And the 25-year-old has vowed to bring him down to earth when the first bell sounds at the home of British boxing in Bethnal Green.

Moore said: ‘The preparations have gone well considering the injuries I had ahead of my last couple of contests.

‘He’s confident but he’s talking a lot of rubbish. He’s talking like he’s going to be a world champion. He needs to live in the real world.

‘Ben’s overachieved to get to where he has, I believe.

‘Everything has gone to plan at my end, so I’m ready to do the business.

‘I’ve still got some hard work ahead of me, though this weekend.

‘It’s a long way to come to get a hiding from someone like Lee Selby!

‘Seriously, though, it’s good for me and it really sharpens you up.

‘It shows me how sharp I have to be when I go into the ring next week.

‘I’m sparring Lee and Gary Buckland is coming down as well.

‘I’ll be ready to go next weekend. It’s time to bring him down to earth and finish him. He’s coming across as arrogant, but I’ll soon sort that out.’

Moore has also been boosted by the news he is set to fight on the undercard of David Haye’s next contest at the O2 Arena in London on May 21.

That’s good news for the 12-6-1 man who has plans for a big year and is aiming to move towards English and even British title honours.

His trainer, Michael Ballingall, knows Moore can’t afford to look past Day, however.

Ballingall has also noted the talking coming out of Day’s camp.

He said: ‘We’ve heard what Ben has been saying. He has only had seven fights and not boxed anyone of note other than Ryan Taylor.

‘Ryan was a shadow of himself. He was one of Floyd’s leftovers.

‘We aren’t taking this lightly. This is very serious because we have to beat the likes of Ben if we are to move on.

‘We aren’t looking past this, but Floyd will be boxing on the David Haye undercard.

‘We can’t look past Ben Day but Floyd knows there are bigger and better things to come.’
