Jenman, 31 is set to fight on Saturday, February 24, at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth in a six-round contest with his opponent yet to be confirmed, but he said it would be a ‘tough and durable opponent who will come to win.’

The middleweight contender found himself ranked 13 in the UK after a knockout victory against Tom Stokes in December.

However, Jenman endured a frustrating period of training without a confirmed fight and has admitted his next contest is an opportunity to stay active and avoid ring rust.

He said: “I’ve taken the fight to stay active really and keep ticking over. When you don’t box for a while you get a bit of ring-rust and you don’t want to get a call for a big fight when you haven’t boxed for six months.

“I got the phone call last week and I was umming and arring about it because I didn’t know what to do and whether to wait around for a big fight but I thought I need to stay active and keep busy.”

Jenman is hoping for a big title fight by the end of the year and has put himself in contention for the Commonwealth title.

He said: “My name has been put forward for the Commonwealth title against Liam Cameron at York Hall on April 14.

“I’ve put my name forward but it has to get approved by the Commonwealth board so we will see what happens.”

Along with the Commonwealth title Jenman is also being linked with a shot for the English titles as current champion Elliot Matthews looks set to vacate the strap, leaving Jenman in a healthy position to challenge for the title versus old foe Grant Dennis. The Brighton man has won 11 of his last 12 bouts, with the loss coming against Dennis for the Southern Area Middleweight title back in November 2016. Jenman said: “The English title could go vacant. I think Elliot Matthews is giving up the English title and who knows it could be a rematch with Grant Dennis for the English title.

“I said my Southern Area was my world title so the English is beyond dreams. Let alone even fight for it or be in contention to fight.”
