Trio get a kick out of martial arts success

Two Dynamic Tiger Freestyle Kickboxing (DTFK) club students from Midhurst competed in their first full contact kickboxing fights.

Zak Sheldron and Conor Dunning, together with Neil Fairley of Chiddingfold, all represented DTFK in the event at Tolworth Recreation Centre organised by Martial Art All Styles (MAAS).

Before the fights the three students were put through their paces in 4 weeks of intense training with the DTFK chief Instructor Damon Kentell and DTFK Head Instructor Daniel Pearce.

The martial arts club has bases in Goldaming, Liphook and Midhurst.

Sheldron was the first DTFK fighter to step into the ring. After an even start he grew in confidence and finished the first round strongly.

Seeing his opponent start to tire Sheldron kept the pressure on and dominated rounds two and three. He was declared the winner by a unanimous judges’ decision.

Fairley was next up. After a slow first round he picked up the pace towards the end of the second round and continued this in the third and final round.

Unfortunately Fairley lost a tight judges’ decision, but the organisers were so impressed with his technical ability they invited him back for a title shot.

Dunning was the last DTFK fighter on. He confidently made his way to the ring and looked focused on the task in hand.

After a flurry of punches followed by a perfect roundhouse kick to the head from Dunning while his opponent was against the ropes, the referee stopped the fight and after a medic had decided his opponent could not continue, Dunning won by TKO just 33 seconds into the first round, which was the quickest win of the night.

With two wins and a title shot, the trio and DTFK gained numerous plaudits and praise from the organisers and other martial arts organisations in attendance.
