The St Leonards potter won four frames in a row as he came from 3-1 down to defeat Shaun Murphy 5-3 in round two of the Shanghai Masters.

World number six Murphy has enjoyed an excellent 2015 because in addition to his fine performance at the World Championship, he won the Masters and reached the German Masters final. He was also runner-up in the Paul Hunter Classic last month.

He took the opening frame with a closing break of 49, and although Davis comfortably clinched the second, Murphy won the third with a break of 107 and pinched the fourth with a 27 clearance after Davis made a 57.

Murphy didn’t pot a ball in the next two frames, though, as world number 19 Davis levelled at 3-3 with runs of 70 and 64. Davis also won frame seven and he sealed victory in eighth with the help of a 58.

Murphy wrote on social media site Twitter after the match: “No complaints today. Lost to the better player on the day. If I play like that for the rest of the season I’ll be happy. Good luck MD.”

Davis has been playing extremely well in Shanghai this week. He previously saw off Michael White 5-1 in the first round yesterday aided by breaks of 42, 73, 61, 46 and 126. White scored just 89 points in the match.
