The St Leonards-based talent followed up his victory at the Sangsom 6-Red World Championship in Thailand last weekend by winning the General Cup, an eight-man non-ranking event in Hong Kong.

Once again the man Davis beat in the final was world number one Neil Robertson. Having defeated the Australian star 8-4 to win the six-red title, Davis triumphed 7-2 over the same player in the more familiar 15-red format this morning (Friday). He received £15,600 in prize-money for his endeavours.

The General Cup began with the eight players split into two groups of four. World number 17 Davis started group B with a 3-1 win over seventh-ranked Ricky Walden and a 3-2 success against fourth-ranked Shaun Murphy on Tuesday.

He lost 3-2 to 11th-ranked Marco Fu yesterday to finish second in the group to the man from Hong Kong, but then thumped group A winner and World Championship runner-up Barry Hawkins 6-1 in the semi-finals.

Davis, 41, will hope to continue his red hot form when he lines-up in the Shanghai Masters, one of the full ranking events on the World Snooker circuit, next week, but he faces a tricky opening match against 16th-ranked Ali Carter on Tuesday morning.
