The club, based in Pavilions in the Park in Horsham is for people with additional learning needs and all three Sunbeam swimmers were on the podium.

Stuart Cutler won first place in the senior men’s four-lengths race, Matt Dawson placed third in the senior men’s two-lengths and Becky Grant came first in the senior ladies’ one-length and second in the senior ladies four-lengths races.

Coach Sarah Burling was delighted with the placings. She said: “All of them had faster times than they did last year and were a credit to the club. We celebrated with fish and chips before the long journey back home.”

The celebrations didn’t end there though. At Sunbeam’s AGM, Matt Dawson also won the cup for the Most Improved Swimmer of the Year and Sarah Burling was presented with the Michael Sharp Award for the person who has contributed the most to the club in 2013.

The Sunbeam Club hopes to build on their recent successes by inviting more members to join in the New Year.

The club meets at The Pavilions every Friday night from 8 to 9pm. The first session of 2014 was on January 10 and new members are most welcome.
