Brilliant Bradbury takes the Easter golfing honours at Chichester

The trophy was won by Oli Bradbury, who has a handicap of five and who was victorious with a gross score of 71, nett 66.

Second was Joseph Fradgley who is just 11, and third was Jack Dry, 12, so it was a great day for the younger players.

Bradbury gave an incredible performance, particularly on the back nine, shooting three under par with birdies on the tenth, 16th and 18th and an eagle on the 12th.

There is a busy programme of events for the junior members throughout the year, with regular competitions on the Cathedral course and the Tower course as well as the nine-hole par-three short course.

All junior members are encouraged to take part, and having events on the three courses means that there is something for everyone, whether they are a talented, experienced golfer or have just started playing and do not have a handicap.

Chichester Golf Club are very keen to promote golf to young people. For under-18s it is just £100 for a whole year, which gives unlimited play on all four of the group’s 18-hole courses as well as the nine-hole course.

SELSEY

The third club match this season was a home game played on Thursday, April 14 against a very strong team from Bognor, where they lost 5 & 2.

Though the day was overcast, there was no rain or wind, and it was a good day for golf. Following the match, an excellent lunch was provided by the club caterer Julie Conebar.

COWDRAY PARK

Cowdray Park seniors were made to fight by Chichester vets - far more than the final margin of 5½-2½ would suggest.

Five matches were decided by one hole and another was halved as Cowdray attempted to preserve their unbeaten home record.

The lead match, involving match manager Tony Castley and Brian Brockhurst set the pattern.

Having established a halfway lead of two holes, they were made to scrap all the way by David Blythe and Mike Hunter, but the Cowdray pair held firm, and re-established their lead, thanks in no small way to the putting prowess of Brockhurst.

Further narrow victories followed for the home side to give them an unassailable lead, but Chichester won the final two matches.

It will not take much of a swing in Chichester’s favour to reverse the result in the return fixture on August 1.

GOODWOOD

Golf At Goodwood have announced the first qualifying event for a free place in the 2011 Trilby Tour event being held at Goodwood on Thursday, July 21.

A maximum field of 42 will compete for the one slot available in the main event and with this a full William Hunt outfit and bespoke Callaway Golf Bag.

The three leading stableford scores will go through to a three-hole play off over the first, 17th and 18th holes to determine who goes through. In the event of tied scores after the play-off the winner will be decided by a nearest the pin on the first.

The Trilby Tour is now full so the only way to enter is by competing in one of our qualifier tournaments. Winners of the qualifying events are guaranteed a place in regional final on July 21.

Normally, entry into the tour costs £250, but if you win one of our qualifiers you won’t have to pay anything.

Practice rounds are available at £45 per person and are available only to those playing in the qualifying event and their caddy.
