Broadwater make haven after storms

THUNDERSTORMS in off the sea at getting on for midday on Saturday moved on inland to disrupt the cricket programme. First-team matches at Goring and Chippingdale's game at Southwater all failed to beat the soakaway.

But already parched Broadwater, held back an hour anyway to an official 2.30pm start by the carnival on Broadwater Green, got started at 3.15.

As expected, they were put in to bat but after limping to 155 all out off 39.1 of their agreed 40 overs, they dismissed relegation-threatened Arundel for 105 in 29.1 of their 36.

Two-wickets down for two runs after four overs was the drying conditions disturbing Broadwater's beginnings. Later, in reply, 31 for four '” all four to Broadwater paceman Fitzroy Hodges '” wiped the confidence off Arundel's faces.
