Buckswood county call-ups

THREE rugby players from Buckswood School have been selected to represent their respective counties after coming through trials.

Rye Rugby Club duo Joe Morell and Lee Bailey have been called up for Sussex under-17s, and Harlequins Academy member and Cranbrook player Luke Phillips is in the Kent under-15s party.

Joe is a very skilful centre and a typical New Zealander blessed with speed, strength and incredible vision, while Lee is the school and club's British Bulldog - a No.2 who is very hard to stop and never gives up.

For the past year local boy Luke has been included in a very strong Harlequins Academy team and as a result was automatically named in final trials for Kent's under-15 team. His selection means he will join the county's tour to France in March.

The Guestling-based school is also awaiting final word on the progress of its Colombian front-rower Sebastian Torrengra who was included in the Sussex under-14 development squad.

The call-ups would be a feather in the cap for any school, but for one with a total of only 150 boys this is an exceptional achievement. Coaching at Buckswood is provided by Rye Rugby Club.
