Bumper field for Bexhill Triathlon

A bumper field is set to line-up in the third Team Lifestyle Bexhill Triathlon on Sunday.

With the entry limit of 250 almost reached by Wednesday and applications still coming in, organisers were expecting the race to sell out by the end of the week.

As well as depth, the field will also have strength because some top class athletes have signed up. The men’s field includes 2009 winner Colin Dixon, last year’s champion Barney Reed, and Sussex Triathlon winners Adrian Elliott and Stuart Sorrell.

In the women’s event, 2010 Ironman UK champion Yvette Grice is coming back to defend her Bexhill Triathlon title. Sussex Triathlon winner Emma Richards and last year’s Bexhill Triathlon first local athlete Susie Casebourne have entered too. The organisers are also looking forward to welcoming many beginners to triathlon and open water racing.

The race begins around 7.45am with a 500m sea swim by the Sovereign Light Café on West Parade. The 25km out-and-back bike route then sees the athletes go through Little Common, Cooden and onto the Marsh Road.

The final task is a 5km run, taking in two loops of West Parade and the Lower Promenade. The race village, transition and finish will be on West Parade by the Sovereign Light Café.

The race location is great for spectators and the athletes really do appreciate the support. The race was named Best New Event in the South 2009 and went on to sell out again in 2010.
