Burgess Hill Runners over 45 ladies not put off by icy conditions

The icy weather conditions on Saturday morning meant that the local Parkrun at Clair Park had to be cancelled but the hardcore over 45 ladies weren’t put off of taking part in the Sussex Masters Cross Country.

Jan Lavis lead the team home on the hilly 4 mile course in 33:59 (21st in their category) followed by Janet Clapton in 34:33 (24th) and Sally Symes in 38:10 (33rd). The team ranked 7th out of 9 in their age category against tough opposition.

Meanwhile Phillippe Ecaille took part in the ‘Country to Capital’ Ultra, a 45 mile race on country trails and towpaths with an 11 hour cut off. Phillippe was pleased that he managed to keep to his game plan, completing this gruelling challenge in 9:31.

Burgess Hill Runners, in partnership with Mid-Sussex District Council are now offering a new ‘Learn to Run’ 10-week course from the 11th of February. The course will be aimed at absolute beginner runners and by the end of the 10 weeks they will be able to jog a whole 5k.
