Busy days for Glynde

THERE'S a big showdown tomorrow when Glynde are hosts to Seaford in the East Sussex League division one.

Glynde have been champions for the past three seasons but Seaford, runners-up last campaign, are mounting a serious challenge with former Sussex star Colin Wells in their ranks.

Wells cracked another 75 not out on Saturday as Seaford thrashed Crowhurst Park by ten wickets while Glynde's game at Iden was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Seaford now sit 14 points behind leaders Ringmer '“ four-wicket winners at Fletching '“ while Glynde are a further 26 points adrift with two of their four scheduled fixtures so far abandoned.

Other division one fixtures are Barcombe v Fletching, Hellingly v Iden, Herstmon-ceux v Crowhurst Park and Ringmer v Heathfield Park.

Leading Glynde batsman Dominic Shepheard dropped to the second team on Saturday to get some much-needed batting practice and hit 54.

And the workout paid dividends as Shepheard came back to form with 133 not out and 4-16 from seven overs as Glynde beat Barcombe by 115 runs in the npower Village Knockout Cup on Sunday.

Glynde tallied 218-5 from their 40 overs and only Alan Trower with 25 not out, Liam Williams with 23 and Richard Seager with 19 showed much resistance. Dale Tranter took 4-17.

Next up for Glynde in the Village Cup are Ansty '“ the Sussex semi-final takes place on Sunday, 2pm start.

Hosts Ansty were one-run winners over Alfriston last weekend in a real cliffhanger. Ansty made 182-7 in their 40 overs and Alfriston looked well set when they needed six runs from the last over to win. Matt Harmer was still there on 86 but he was out to the first ball and Alfriston just failed. Ansty's Jim Nutter took 5-53.
