Cameron and Heather steer Stirlands home

After a slightly delayed start because of all the beach traffic brought out by a blisteringly hot day, Littlehampton won the toss and decided to bat on what looked a belter of a wicket at Stirlands in division three west.

They were soon in trouble, losing two wickets in the first six overs.

Michael Askew tried to bring Littlehampton back on track and hit eight fours in his score of 38. Chris Heberlein had supported Askew but fell with the introduction of Struan Cameron for 26.

Sam Mellor was lbw to Lewis Allan for eight and when Michael Askew was caught by Will Gubbins to give Cameron his second wicket of the day the Littlehampton batting had little more to offer.

Littlehampton limped to 147 all out in 49.2 overs with Cameron again doing all the damage for Stirlands.

He took six for 42 from 18.2 overs to bring his tally of wickets for the season to 52 – almost equalling the width in inches of his ever growing handlebar moustache.

In reply, Stirlands never really looked in any trouble and the opening pair of Sean Heather and Stewart Hanks put on 119 before Hanks was caught for 25.

Heather was in no mood to hang about and played some beautiful shots mixed with some big hitting to bring up his fifth century of the season.

It was left to New Zealander Lewis Allan (9no) to hit the winning runs in his last game for the club before returning home.

Heather’s innings of 101 not out included nine fours and six sixes and came in just 76 balls.

Stirlands took 30 points, Littlehampton four. This week Stirlands visit table-topping Middleton.
