Canary Wharf's towering victory over Bognor

Bognor Pirates knew a National League division three visit to face Canary Wharf Baltic Staff would be a tough challenge as they had already beaten a division-one side this season. They were proved right as they went down 110-68.

The Baltic Staff raced to an early-eight point lead but the Pirates stuck to their game plan and it started to work, with Kev Wilson striding through to notch up the Pirates’ first points.

The Pirates were moving the ball well offensively and converting it into points, but the Baltic Staff matched them and led 29-19 after the first quarter.

The visitors continued to move the ball and create gaps in the opposition’s defence and there was some fine shooting from Dave Turner.

The Pirates upped their defensive effort and forced the Baltic Staff into tough shots.

The Pirates’ work on rebounds let them down, allowing the opposition to get second chances on any missed shots. The second quarter finished 59-40.

In the third quarter the Baltic Staff continued to stretch their lead over the Pirates.

The fourth quarter saw every member of the team give it their all at both ends. The Baltic Staff continued to shoot well hitting four three-pointers to extend their lead, but the Pirates never gave up.

As the game ended the Pirates could feel pleased with themselves, and will have taken a lot from the game.
