The 14-year-old is staying with Team Pelfrey but is strpping up in class from the F1600 programme in which he performed so well this year.

Team Pelfrey said Cane was extending his contract for an additional two years, with an option to extend even further, and would graduate to Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda Championship for the 2016 season.

Cane’s inaugural season in America began in June at Virginia International Raceway in the F1600 Formula F series. He captured seven wins and ten podiums for the Florida-based team during their campaign.

“I am so pleased to continue my North American open-wheel racing career with Team Pelfrey,” Cane said.

“My time in America has been such a highlight to my resume especially breaking the all-time win record in my first season and coming away fourth in the F1600 Championship whilst missing six races –not bad for the youngest in the world this year in formula cars.

“I didn’t expect to have such a fantastic year and I have to thank everyone at Team Pelfrey who has made it possible.

“Continuing my career with the only team to currently compete on every step of the Mazda Road to Indy is an easy one for me, not only that it highlights a very clear path of how I see my career moving forward but it is also a testament to the faith the team are putting in me for the longer term and for that I’m extremely grateful.

“I know my time in USF2000 will not be easy, but hopefully I can reward my partners, Independent Talent Sport, adidas Motorsport, Goodwood, #2Bn1, Pro-Sim and the team with some wins this year.”

Cane will pilot the No 81 Team Pelfrey Mazda for the 16-race season throughout the U.S. and Canada

“We are delighted to have Jordan join us for another two years,” said Nigel Tuckey, team principal of Team Pelfrey.

“His growth on and off the track has been extraordinary and his competitive nature is something every driver in the paddock wishes to inhabit. We’ve grown accustomed to seeing him on the top step of the podium, and we hope to see more of that come 2016.”
