Carter smashes a spot-kick treble

SHOREHAM Football Club joint-boss Jason Rutherford believes luck was firmly with his side after Richard Carter blasted home a hat-trick of penalties on Saturday.

Rutherford said: "We haven't had a lot of luck this season and it ended up being one of those games where everything went for us. Some weeks, we would not have been awarded any of the penalties and it was very brave refeering to give us all three, especially the third one in the final minute, although that was stonewall.

"Redhill were on top for the final 15 minutes and looked like they could go on to win the game until we got the third penalty but that's the little bit of luck you sometimes need."

A hat-trick of penalties scored by the same player in a game is a rare occurence but Carter surely owed team-mate Owen Callaghan a drink after the game because Callaghan was the man felled on all three occasions.
